Promoting Dialogue, Tolerance and Peace : Pakistan won first position in 2019 World Radio Day programmes contest

In connection with the 2019 World Radio Day, (that is being observed every year on 13 February), the United Nations in Pakistan joined Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation, FM 100 and other Broadcasters in the series of radio programmes to promote Dialogue, Tolerance and Peace.

Thematic radio programme prepared by Radio Pakistan has won the first position in the 2019 World Radio Day Contest.

Mr. Neil Buhne, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Pakistan and Ms. Vibeke Jensen, Representative/Director in Pakistan of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) participated in the programme.

An independent jury that included recognized radio professionals, selected the winner based on originality of content, understanding and visibility of the message of dialogue, tolerance and peace, sound quality etc.  The global contest took place in 6 languages.

The United Nations in Pakistan in partnership with the Radio Pakistan is addressing the key aspects of the Sustainable Development Goals agenda by raising awareness among listeners.

Years of successful partnership resulted in the broadcasts of more than 150 radio programmes that were addressing important development and human rights issues; e.g. gender equality, women empowerment, climate change, food security, education, youth development, human trafficking, rights of the transgender people, rights of people living with HIV and AIDS as well as many other important themes.
