Islamabad, 19 November 2013 - The Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation and the United Nations Information Centre joined forces for disseminating information on the activities and projects of the United Nations in Pakistan through the national radio channels. According to the Statement of Collaboration signed today by Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation’s Director General, Samina Parvez and by Vittorio Cammarota, Director of the UN Information Centre, the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation will contribute its nationwide network reaching out to nearly 95% of the population in Urdu as well as in many other regional languages. The United Nations Information Centre will provide impartial and reliable information developed by the several agencies, funds and programmes of the United Nations family in Pakistan. It will also facilitate the participation of experts from the United Nations in the programs of the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation. Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Samina Parvez said that the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation has always played a pivotal role in airing awareness programs and disseminating campaigns and messages of the United Nations. She expressed the confidence that signing of the statement will further strengthen the existing cooperation between PBC and United Nations. “The mission of the United Nations Information Centre is to empower Pakistani people through communications and we can only succeed if we work closely to Pakistani institutions and organizations like the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation. In fact, their expertise and knowledge of mass communications in the country is instrumental to reaching out effectively people of Pakistan” said Mr. Vittorio Cammarota, Director of the United Nations Information Centre in while signing the agreement. As next step, the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation and the United Nations Information Centre will develop a joint work plan highlighting the priorities thematic area of the United Nations in Pakistan and the main target audiences.
