Government of Punjab and the United Nations establish partnership for engaging youth in the UN’s communication campaigns

Islamabad, 11 June 2015: Mr. Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, Minister for School Education, Higher Education, Youth Affairs, Sports, Archaeology and Tourism, Government of Punjab and Mr. Vittorio Cammarota, Director UN Information Centre signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance dissemination of values and core messages of the United Nations through the educational institutions based in Punjab.

The strategic partnership will facilitate the implementation of the UN Wall and UN Corner campaigns, organized by the United Nations Communications Group in the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the United Nations.

The UN Corner will provide Pakistani university students with access to key literature and publications released by the UN Secretariat and by agencies, funds and programmes of the UN System on national, regional and global issues.

The purpose of the UN Wall Campaign is to promote key messages on the priority areas of the United Nations in Pakistan including education, gender equity, hunger, climate change, health, peace and tolerance and volunteerism. Students will be asked to creatively display them on a dedicated wall in their schools and universities.

The United Nations Information Centre is actively engaged in empowering Pakistani youth for the promotion of peace and harmony in the country. In the past couple of years, Pakistani young people have been increasingly involved in many projects including the visit of Secretary-General’s Envoy for Youth in June 2014 and two youth forums.
