KAY2 TV : Interview with Vittorio Cammarota / communication campaigns on the 70th anniversary of the United Nations

Islamabad, 9 June 2015: Mr. Vittorio Cammarota, Director UN Information Centre was interviewed by Kay2 TV, in a special Programme : Sahar Mishi Khan Ke Saath. KAY2 TV is Pakistan’s first multi-lingual television channel.

In the interview he discussed about the role of the United Nations in assisting the people of Pakistan. He shared about the communication campaigns and initiatives that United Nations has launched for the young Pakistanis on the occasion of its 70th anniversary this year. These campaigns like, UN Wall, UN corner and internship programmes provides great opportunities to young students for promoting key messages and values of the United Nation and having access to the UN publications.

Government of Punjab and the United Nations establish partnership for engaging youth in the UN’s communication campaigns

Islamabad, 11 June 2015: Mr. Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, Minister for School Education, Higher Education, Youth Affairs, Sports, Archaeology and Tourism, Government of Punjab and Mr. Vittorio Cammarota, Director UN Information Centre signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance dissemination of values and core messages of the United Nations through the educational institutions based in Punjab.

The strategic partnership will facilitate the implementation of the UN Wall and UN Corner campaigns, organized by the United Nations Communications Group in the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the United Nations. Continue reading

Radio Pakistan – World Environment Day

Today at Radio Pakistan we talked about the urgent need of protecting the environment, including the oceans. We shared information on how the UN is working with its member states and many other counterparts in the run up to COP 21. We highlighted the role Pakistani people can play with the support of their government in reducing air pollution, waste of precious natural resources and deforestation. And we stressed how crucial is the contribution from the youth in the whole process.

Pakistani people and United Nations – Human stories through Photography

Lahore, 16 April 2015: A picture is worth a thousand words and does not need any translation. Mr. Vittorio Cammarota, Director of the United Nations Information Centre mentioned this adage referring to photography as a powerful communications tool.

The occasion was a UN photo exhibition to mark the 70th anniversary of the United Nations, “Pakistani People and United Nations – Human stories through photography”, which opened on April 17 at the City Heritage Museum in Lahore. The exhibition, produced in collaboration with the National College of Arts (NCA) and the Lahore Museum, includes two collections of professional photos.

“Pakistani People and United Nations” showcased 74 professional photographs documenting human stories in the main areas of UN work in Pakistan: education, employment, food security, health, gender equality and social justice, humanitarian assistance, peacekeeping, rule of law and governance. UN Speaker’s Corner at the National Book Festival

Islamabad, 24 April 2015: The United Nations System in Pakistan joined hands with the National Book Foundation and organised a Speaker’s Corner at a well-attended annual National Book Festival in Islamabad, on 24 April 2015.

Groups of panelists hold three rounds of discussion on the topics: Understanding the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; Climate Change and Pakistan at COP21; and Key initiatives of the United Nations agencies in Pakistan. Continue reading

UN Pakistan launched Urdu version of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Islamabad, 24 April 2015: Aiming at enhancing the understanding about the human rights principals the United Nations in Pakistan published an Urdu version of the UDHR and launched it at the Speaker’s Corner session, held during the National Book Festival in Islamabad.

Dr. Jacqui Badcock, Resident Coordinator a.i. opened the session and briefed participants about the historical back ground of the UDHR and concept of the human rights among different civilizations. She said that an understanding of the articles of the Declaration allows us to debate the principles behind legal solutions applied in national laws, such as Part II of the Constitution of Pakistan – Fundamental Rights and Principles of Policy. Earth Day

Mother Earth Day – Plant a tree

Islamabad, 22 April 2015: UNIC Islamabad celebrated Mother Earth Day by joining the tree plantation with Federal Minister for Climate Change, Mushaidullah Khan and partners from the Centre for Climate Research & Development (CCRD) , COMSATS University Islamabad and from the French Embassy in Islamabad.

UNIC Islamabad is collaborating with CCRD on several communication initiatives related to the climate change and other issues like education and youth development. In September last, ahead of the SG’s Climate Change Summit, UNIC organized a Pakistan’s summit with CCRD and experts on climate change, which helped in generating number of debates and discussions on the topic.

UNIC Director emphasized on plantation as a mean of building a sustainable and resilient future for the Mother Earth and for the younger generations.

UNIC Islamabad marked International Day of Sports for Development & Peace

Islamabad, 6 April 2015: Like other parts of the world, the concept of Sport for Development and Peace (SDP) is gaining momentum in Pakistan since 2013. UNIC Islamabad is actively engaged in communication activities for promoting the positive values and power of sports for development and peace among the youth and other partners in Pakistan.

Designing the UN Corner in partnership with COMSATS University

Islamabad, 25 February 2015: UNIC and COMSATS are joining forces for developing the UN Corner, a satellite bookshelf of publications, reports, magazines from the UN System, to be placed in universities across the county. Students from the faculty of architecture submit their proposals to be evaluated by a team of experts:  After the announcement of winning proposal,  the UN Corner bookshelf will be officially presented to the media. In addition to partnering for the design of the UN Corner, UNIC and COMSATS will also work together for the UN 70 campaign and for internships.

 

FM100: radio talk show on World Radio Day

Islamabad, 12 February 2015: On World Radio Day, the Director UN Information Centre, Vittorio Cammarota participated in a special live talk show, at FM 100 radio network. He talked about ‘youth and journalism’ and shared information on the Dag Hammarskjöld Fund for Journalists Fellowship to radio, television, print and web journalists, which available to developing countries including Pakistan. He encouraged young male and female journalists, aged 25-35 to apply for the fellowship. The selected journalists shall be visiting New York to report on international affairs during the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly this year. Continue reading
