Mr. Inayatullah President

The Lahore Association of Non-Government Organizations is a major national network of NGOs in Pakistan. From an original group of five non-governmental organizations that first gathered in Lahore in 1990, LANGOS has become an association of nearly twenty NGOs active in and around Lahore.

These NGOs share an interest in cooperating with one another and in strengthening their efforts, and now encompass most areas of social work conducted in the region - from women's development to support for handicapped children as well as adult education, health support and more. They have a common budget and maintain a Resource Center to share information and prevent duplication of projects. They organize press conferences, symposia and talks on a regular basis. LANGOS objective is to provide a platform to NGOs for the pursuit of common issues and problems as well as to undertake advocacy of NGO's interests.

Based in Lahore LANGOS is headed by Mr. Inayatullah, a former ambassador of Pakistan. He has been particularly active in various UN events such as taking part in the Millenium Forum in New York in the spring of 2000 as well as in the DPI-NGO Conference in Islamabad, which was organized by UNIC last August to mirror the annual New York gathering.
