The Pakistan Women Lawyers Association (PAWLA) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization, which is working essentially as a pressure group for the reform of laws discriminating against women.

The organization was founded by Ms. Rashida Muhammad Hussain Patel in 1985 to provide legal assistance for women in distress. Based and working mainly in Karachi, PAWLA is run by professional lawyers and volunteers.

Legal awareness programmes form an integral part of PAWLA's activities; it presents video films in schools, clinics, parks and out of reach areas on key laws and women's rights in this respect. The organization is hoping to establish fifteen viewing centres within the next three years. Also as part of its awareness campaign, PAWLA presents plays on legal issues, followed by question and answer sessions on Radio Pakistan.
